June 2012 – Exhibition design for 'Confrontations - Contemporary Dutch Design' at the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein (DE) showing work of 2012Architecten, Studio Formafantasma, Lucas Maassen, Dirk Vander Kooij and Studio Wieki Somers.
Under the title 'Confrontations', objects and installations will be shown that were created especially for the exhibition by five young teams from the Netherlands in collaboration with partners from the region around the museum. The final completion of the projects will occur in live performances during Art Basel from 12 to 16 June 2012.
The exhibition participants include six of the most well-known young design studios in the Netherlands: 2012Architecten, Catalogtree, Studio Formafantasma, Lucas Maassen, Dirk Vander Kooij and Studio Wieki Somers. While Catalogtree takes charge of staging the exhibition itself, the remaining five teams were matched with partners from the Basel and Freiburg area: A. Raymond, Confiserie Rafael Mutter, Roche, Vitra and the Swiss charcoal burner Doris Wicki. All five partners provided the designers with material and know-how in the process of jointly developing an object or an installation. The works will receive the finishing touch in public performances in the Vitra Design Museum Gallery. Starting on 12 June, a different team will present and install their project each day so that viewers can watch the exhibition take shape. The show will continue to grow daily before reaching its completion on the evening of 16 June. The exhibition will remain on view including a documentation of the performances through 2 September 2012. In collaboration with Amelie Znidaric (Curator) , Stephanie Ehrsam (Curatorial Assistant) , Stefani Fricker (Technical project managment) .
