Democracy vs. Math

September 2017 – Maps and charts on the Wisconsin State Assembly elections for an article about Gerrymandering for New York Times Magazine. Due to redistricting by the Republicans in 2011 many Democratic voters were efficiently concentrated in a relatively small number of urban districts while the remainder spread out among many districts in the rest of the state. In the next election in 2012 the Democrats won more than 50% of the total votes but only 39 of the 99 districts.

July 2017 – Customized glyphs as a dynamic logotype for modem, an architectural practice in Oakland (US) by Kathryn Moll and Nicholas de Monchaux. The glyphs are implemented in an existing typeface as a stylistic set – new combinations of the different glyphs can be generated instantly while typing. 

Act Alter Ego

July 2017 – Poster series in 4 colours for ‘Grind the Gap’, an ongoing project at Plaatsmaken in Arnhem, NL. Each poster is printed using a single screen. To create the colour separations the fine-tuning of the screenprint table is used (shift vertical/horizontal, shift diagonal, rotate). In collaboration with Mars F. Wellink (screen printer) .
